Major responsibilities of the position are as follows.
Responsibilities
- Leads trendspotting efforts for the NIH Library Technology Hub and the Library generally, in order to identify and evaluate the potential utilization of emerging technologies with relevance to biomedical research, such as research tools employing Artificial Intelligence (AI) and/or Machine Learning (ML).
- Serves as primary point of contact for the library’s 3D Printing service and 3D Modeling applications, including providing assistance on the use of 3D Printers, coordinating vendor-led training on 3D Modeling applications, and providing consultations and guidance on all aspects of 3D Printing and 3D Modeling.
- Supports customer usage of all other Technology Hub services, including the Digital Production Studio, Virtual Reality system, Collaboration Pods, and high-performance workstations.
- Assists users in creating audio and video projects using the Library’s Digital Production Studio, including providing guidance on the use of digital audio recorders, video cameras, headphones, microphones, sound-proofing, green screens, and lighting kits. Provides assistance to users of editing software, including Adobe Creative Cloud suite, Camtasia, and Captivate.
- Provides guidance and instruction on how Virtual Reality (VR) technology can help users with research, collaboration, and education needs, and on use of the Library’s HTC Vive VR system, including the Vive roomscale VR which allows the user to walk around and interact with a virtual space through a VR headset and motion tracked handheld controllers.
- Provides metrics on usage of Technology Hub services, and prepares reports and presentations for management officials on the utilization of services.
- Promotes the use of Technology Hub services to the NIH and solicits customer feedback on service quality and suggestions for future services.
- Reviews Technology Hub processes, and makes proposals and recommendations to management for modifications that improve the efficiency of services and/or the quality of products. Tests and evaluates new or updated technologies and applications. Develops methods to refine and improve services based on testing, user input, and personal expertise.
- Participates as a project leader and/or team member in accomplishing work assignments, developing and making presentations on project status, and maintaining an online project status site for projects including project plans, status reports, standard procedures, milestones, and budget documents.
