Brittni Ballard is a second-year Master of Library and Information Science student at University of Maryland, College Park. She is also a Libraries Research and Teaching Fellow. Brittni practices critical, feminist, open pedagogy, and her current research interests include game-based learning, information literacy, and young adults. Past projects include online resource guides and visual novel video games that develop adolescent and young adult digital health literacy.
In her application, Brittni wrote: “Although I have great interest in health sciences librarianship, no formal learning opportunities by way of certifications or classes exist at UMD. Attending this conference is one action I can take to develop both my understanding of the field and network of colleagues. […] Thank you for supporting library school students by providing both the means and the opportunity to participate in professional development while learning more about issues in the field of health sciences librarianship. […] With your assistance, I hope to advance what has thus far been a primarily solo venture in pursuit of the best health information research and evidence-based practices in this shared quest to promote healthy lifestyles and choices through quality information.”

In her application she wrote: “By attending the 2018 Annual Meeting, I will ground my previous and current experience in events such as keynote speakers, update interactions with current field leadership, and informative exhibits. In the future, I am also interested in opportunities to take on leadership roles in the library field and associations. Interaction with current MAC members will help me gain an understanding of the trajectory of medical librarianship and what are the main issues being brought forward for solution-finding by health information professionals.”
