 CALL FOR PARTICIPANTS

Hampton University’s William R. and Norma B. Harvey Library invites you to participate in our IMLS funded project grant, Leading the Charge:  Advancing the Recruitment, Retention and Inclusion of People of Color within the LIS field.

The Leading the Charge Grant will pair project participants with an EDI consultant to receive guidance on developing, implementing and assessing an initiative which focuses on either equity, diversity or inclusion of POC within their organizations.  The initiative goals should seek to address the continuing concerns within the LIS field regarding recruitment, retention and inclusion of people of color.

Participants must work within a management or leadership capacity within a library or in an organization which serves libraries.   In addition to designing and launching an EDI initiative, selected participants must be able to attend the Leading the Charge meetings:

  • Year 1 virtual meeting October 11-12, 2021
  • Year 2 in person meeting in August 2022 at Hampton University
  • Year 3 meeting in March 2023 at Hampton University

Participants must also participate in related scheduled meetings and webinars as part of the project:   Lodging accommodations will be provided for in person meetings.  Ten participants will be selected. The project results will serve as a collection of actionable initiatives which can be shared throughout the field of library and information science. Libraries and library serving organizations are encouraged to apply.
