Awards

  • MAC Award for Outstanding Health Sciences Library Paraprofessional
    This award honors an outstanding library paraprofessional in a health sciences library in order to recognize the critical role and important contributions library paraprofessionals make to the development and evolution of modern health sciences libraries and librarianship. A plaque, one-year MAC membership, and a cash award of $250 will be award to the recipient.
  • MAC Award for Professional Excellence by a Health Sciences Librarian
    This award is presented to a MAC member who has been a member of the health sciences community for more than ten years in order to recognize outstanding contributions in health sciences librarianship. A plaque, one-year MAC membership, and a cash award of $250 will be award to the recipient.
  • MAC Award for Professional Excellence by a New Health Sciences Librarian
    This award is presented to a MAC member who has been a member of the health sciences community for ten or fewer years in order to recognize outstanding contributions in health sciences librarianship. A plaque, one-year MAC membership, and a cash award of $250 will be award to the recipient.
  • Marguerite Abel Service Recognition Award
    This award is given to a MAC member for exemplary service to the Chapter during the past year. The award was named the Marguerite Abel Service Recognition Award in 1994, and the Abel family donated money to begin financing the award. Marguerite (Marge) Abel was the first reference librarian and assistant director at the Health Sciences Library of West Virginia University. Marge Abel retired from that library in 1994. A plaque, one-year MAC membership, and a cash award of $250 will be award to the recipient.

 

Scholarships

  • MAC Conference Scholar Program
    The Membership and Recruitment Committee of the Mid-Atlantic Chapter (MAC) of the Medical Library Association invites new librarians to apply for a conference scholarship to attend the MAC Annual Meeting. The selected recipient will receive complimentary conference registration, which includes most meals, lodging at the conference hotel, and a one-year MAC/MLA membership. One scholarship will be awarded.
  • MAC Student Vision Scholarship
    The Student Vision Scholarship is a unique opportunity for emerging professionals to attend the MAC annual conference and explore the benefits of health sciences librarianship through interaction, networking and mentorship. It is available to students who are currently enrolled in an ALA accredited MLS program. They must live in or attend a program in the MAC region. Reception, one night of accommodation at the conference hotel (reimbursed), and meals that are provided as part of the conference program.

 

Grants

  • Research & Assessment Grants
    The MAC Research & Assessment Committee provides grant funding for research projects that promote and stimulate excellence in the field of health science librarianship and health sciences librarianship. Grants may be used to support all or part of the costs of a project, up to a maximum of $2000. There is the potential for an increase in this funding in any one year but would require a detailed budget and approval not only of the MAC Research and Assessment Committee but also MAC Executive Board.

    MLA awards and honors recognize individuals who have rendered distinguished service to health sciences libraries and furthered the purposes of health sciences librarianship.
  • MLA Grants, Scholarships, and Fellowships
    MLA offers a variety of funding opportunities to assist qualified students in graduate library science programs and to enable practicing health sciences librarians to pursue professional development.
  • NLM Grants and Funding
    Grants are available for fundamental and applied research in biomedical informatics, bioinformatics, and health sciences library and information science.
