Consumer Health Library Assistant Job Opening at VCU
We have an opening for a Community Health Education Assistant on the MCV campus at VCU. Posting closes in early July.
Primary Purpose of the Position and General Responsibilities:
As a part of the Tompkins-McCaw Library for the Health Sciences’ Research and Education Department, the majority of the time will be spent providing support and assistance in the Community Health Education Center (CHEC), a library for patients and their families located in VCU Health’s Gatway Building.
-Provide excellent customer service and basic information services including health information, basic instruction, and directions to CHEC and Tompkins-McCaw Library users.
-Refer complex reference or research related questions to the CHEC Librarian.
-Assist CHEC users with basic computer use, printing, photocopying, scanning, and faxing.
-Support planning and implementation of CHEC health and wellness programming and outreach activities.
-Create print and digital materials to advertise and promote programs. Staff CHEC table at health fair events.
-Assist the CHEC Librarian with the training of CHEC volunteers, interns, and students. In the absence of the CHEC Librarian, provide oversight to CHEC volunteers, interns, and students.
-Maintain accurate reporting of statistics across various platforms (LibAnswers, EMS, Google, social media analytics).
-Generate reports based on collected statistical data on a monthly or as needed basis.
-Create engaging content for social media to promote CHEC and CHEC activities.
-Assist with website and LibGuide maintenance including updating broken links as needed.
-Staff the Tompkins-McCaw Library Service Desk.
-Assist the Research and Education Department with events and special projects.
-Open and close CHEC daily. Open and/or close Tompkins-McCaw Library as scheduled.
-Ability to work some weekends as needed.
-Demonstrate a commitment to risk assessment (considering cost, benefit, and impact).
-Use software including Google Calendar, LibCal, and Event Management Systems (EMS) to book and maintain classroom reservations.
-Provide support for training and education sessions as needed.
-Track office supply inventory and place supply orders.
-Ensure the cleanliness and maintenance of CHEC by placing work orders as needed.
-Attend professional development and training sessions.
-Assist other library departments with projects on an as needed basis.
-Perform other duties as assigned.
