Manages and directs the operations of the health sciences library, its resources, staff, and volunteers, coordinating the development, organization and accessibility of the library’s resources and services for MH employees, physicians, students, patients and their families and the community.

Responsibilities

Medical Documentation Search and Support: Manages and ensures timely execution of complex data/reference searches in support of physicians, administration, team members, nursing administration and residents and interns across Meridian campuses. Identifies appropriate scope of abstracts and references ensuring current information is shared. Offers external consumer service by fulfilling more than 700 requests annually for consumer health information from the community; promotes Meridian brand and connection to physician network.

Library Operations:  Manages the licensing and acquisition of MH Libraries’ electronic resources (over a million) firm wide. Proactively manages renewals and new subscriptions and presents business cases as appropriate in support of all service lines. Monitors and reports on key financial indicators and performance metrics for MH library resources and services. Develops and implements PI projects as appropriate. Catalogues library collection materials upon receipt. Conducts library orientation for the use of library resources for knowledge-based research. Monitors library environment for changing technologies, developments, and trends. Monitors the library’s onstage appearance, reporting safety, environmental and maintenance issues to respective managers/administrators.

Library Management: Selects, evaluates, and acquires the library’s print, non-print, and electronic knowledge-based resources based on needs and cost. Tracks, analyzes and reports on relevant data and metrics for MH library resources and services development. Develops and maintains a strategic plan for the library, conducting research, user surveys, and/or bench marking studies to determine the resources and services needed, implementing, evaluating and adjusting the strategic plan as necessary. Establishes guidelines for collection development that reflect the library’s goals and objectives. Participates in MH community outreach to promote the library’s resources and services. Represents the library at internal and external meetings. Establishes library support through development activities. Attends conferences, workshops, seminars, and classes to maintain job competency and knowledge of the library environment.

Library Resource Marketing: Provides consultation and guidance to physicians, department managers, and students regarding library resources and services. Develops and maintains liaison roles to the health system and participates in special projects, committee work, and community organizations. Provides library resources for knowledge-based information/orientation as needed. Notes collection deficits and uses appropriate judgment in decision making. Authors and distributes promotional materials including brochures, flyers, instructional sheets, and reports for all MH departments and community organizations regarding knowledge-based information resources for collection development. Publishes journal articles, book chapters and such to promote MH library resources and services. Establishes policies and procedures to implement the strategic plan and monitor compliance. Provides backup support for library staff as needed.

People Management: Manages and/or assists in the recruitment, development and supervision of team members. Creates and sustains an environment that fosters team member engagement. Establishes clear objectives tied to department and/or organizational strategic goals. Coaches, counsels and evaluates performance of direct reports.

Financial Management: Involved in the development and/or management of budget for assigned areas. Regularly monitors relevant key financial indicators and performance metrics, modifying business activities where needed in response to changing financial situations.

Data Management and Analytics: Track, analyze, and report on relevant data and metrics as needed and/or requested. Develop, recommend and/or implement actions or process improvements as appropriate.

Other Duties as Assigned: Complete all other assigned duties and projects in a timely fashion.

Qualifications

Requirements: Bachelor’s degree with 10 years of Librarian experience.

Preferred:

Master’s Degree in library science

3 years of experience in Health sciences Libraries
