Call for Book Chapter Proposals: The 21st Century Health Library Liaison
Introduction
The work of the health science library liaison is ever changing. From using Index Medicus to Grateful Med to PubMed, and from sitting at a reference desk answering questions to teaching classes embedded in the curricula. Now it is the 21st century and liaisons are doing more and impacting academic and clinical activities in novel and exciting ways . They are part of the bio-scientist’s project plan, participating in clinical rounds, developing and assessing assignments, lending data management expertise to research projects, and much more. We want to hear from librarians around the globe on innovative liaison programming and services they are providing. What educational requirements are necessary to do this new work? How did the service develop? How are the faculty and students responding to it? What is the value and impact?
The objective of this book is compile a well-rounded collection of program descriptions of new and innovative liaison activities in the 21st century health library. Included in the program descriptions will be best practices and details on how programs and services evolved, were implemented and evaluated.
Book Chapter Proposals – Topics of Interest
Areas of interest include reference, research, education and instruction, collection development, data services, scholarly publication activities and beyond. Submissions on clinical librarian-specific programs will be considered, however, given the breadth of literature published on such dedicated programs preference will be given to submissions on liaison activities with both a clinical and academic focus in any medicine or health program. Excluded are activities that are still in development or have not been fully established. Activities need to have been fully implemented for a minimum of one year and have an evaluative element.
Instructions
Chapter proposals should be submitted as a PDF or Word file. Submissions should be emailed to Kelly Thormodson (kelly.thormodson@med.und.edu) by October 13, 2017.

Author(s):
* All authors must be named. The lead author (who will serve as the main contact) should be designated. Please include institutional affiliations, position titles, and contact information for each author.
Proposal:
Name of liaison program, service, or proposed chapter title
Program description (1000 word maximum) including:
o program goals & objectives
o user group/population
o partnerships/collaborations, if applicable
o planning process
o program promotion/marketing
o program evaluation
o length of program
o challenges and recommendations
o value and impact
o why you consider the program to be innovative
Note:
* Proposals published in other resources or submitted for publication elsewhere will not be considered. Unpublished conference presentations will be accepted.
* Authors will be notified of the editors’ decision in the Spring of 2018 following final approval from MLA publishing services
* Included chapters are expected to be between 5000-7500 words.
