Head of Patron Services – Health Sciences Libraries, Philadelphia PA

*Primary Duties and Responsibilities:*
Reporting to the Director of the Health Sciences Libraries, the Head of Patron Services provides leadership and strategic direction for the patron services department, which includes circulation, reserves, and interlibrary loan, at the Ginsburg Health Sciences Library. Oversees the activities of the information services desk and cultivates a forward-thinking, collaborative environment that sets high user-centered service standards.
Provides reference services as needed. Supervises four full-time and one part-time staff members. The Health Sciences Libraries serves the information needs of the School of Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Podiatry, nine departments in the College of Public Health and Temple University Hospital. The Head of Patron Services collects and analyzes departmental statistics. Serves as part of the leadership team for the Health Sciences Libraries. Performs other duties as assigned.
*Required Education and Experience:*
ALA-accredited Master’s degree in library/information science. Experience providing reference or patron services in a university, college or health sciences library. At least one year of experience supervising full or part-time staff.
*Required Skills and Abilities:*
*Demonstrated knowledge of patron services functions (circulation, reserves, and/or interlibrary loan).
*Familiarity with integrated library systems (such as Alma).
*Excellent oral and written communication skills.
*Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
*Strong user centered public service philosophy.
*Preferred Skills and Abilities:*
*Experience in an academic health sciences library.
*Familiarity with automated interlibrary loan systems (such as ILLIAD and DOCLINE).
*Familiarity with database searching, particularly medical and health-related resources.
