The Louis Stokes Health Sciences Library at Howard University in Washington, DC has five information services librarian positions open:  Allied Health Sciences Librarian, Dental Librarian, Medical Librarian, Nursing Librarian, and Pharmacy Librarian.  

We are seeking enthusiastic, energetic, self-motivated, creative, service-oriented librarians interested in introducing, and integrating library services that will best serve our users’ needs. These five positions are entry level ones that will be embedded in each of their educational divisions.  They will be responsible for the provision of information services to LSHSL users with a specific focus on Allied Health Sciences, Dental, Medical, Nursing, or Pharmacy Faculty, Students and Administrative Staff.  These librarians will assess information needs, plan services and evaluate programs in an ever changing complex academic health sciences center library physical and virtual environment.  

The incumbents will also participate in informatics training and initiatives. All Louis Stokes Health Sciences Librarians promote the Library’s expanding range of educational and teaching services for the Health Sciences faculty, staff and students at Howard University and participate on project teams and committees as assigned. 

Information Services Librarians should anticipate keeping informed of new developments in librarianship/information services, instructional and information technology and working collaboratively to improve the services and efficiency of the Louis Stokes Health Sciences Library.

Minimum Requirement: An MLS from an ALA Accredited school of library or information sciences.

The Louis Stokes Health Sciences Library at Howard University in Washington, DC is looking to hire a Senior Systems Librarian.  

In this senior leadership position the successful candidate will be responsible for the design and development of the Louis Stokes Health Sciences Library’s online presence, including content on an electronic resources web page.  The Senior Systems Librarian will evaluate, coordinate, and promote the library’s electronic resources, including databases, journals, books, and reference sources for users in an ever changing complex academic health sciences center library physical and virtual environment. 

The incumbent will establish goals and objectives, define needs, and set priorities to ensure the effectiveness of the Louis Stokes Health Sciences Library’s online presence. They will provide leadership for developing and maintaining a comprehensive webpage that will support organizational strategies and goals.

The Senior Systems Librarian should anticipate keeping informed of new developments in librarianship/information services, instructional and information technology and working collaboratively to improve the services and efficiency of the Louis Stokes Health Sciences Library. 

Minimum Requirement: An MLS from an ALA Accredited school of library or information sciences. Three years of experience in a health sciences library setting.

The Louis Stokes Health Sciences Library at Howard University in Washington, DC is looking to hire an Access Services Librarian.  

We are seeking an enthusiastic, energetic, self-motivated, creative, service-oriented librarian with supervisory experience interested in managing access services in an ever changing complex academic health sciences center library physical and virtual environment. 

The incumbent will establish goals and objectives, define needs, and set priorities to ensure the effective management of Access Services. They will provide leadership for developing and maintaining comprehensive access services, media services, reserves development and services and interlibrary loan and document delivery services, and cooperative projects.       

The Access Services Librarian should anticipate keeping informed of new developments in librarianship/information services, instructional and information technology and working collaboratively to improve the services and efficiency of the Louis Stokes Health Sciences Library. 

Minimum Requirement: An MLS from an ALA Accredited school of library or information sciences. One year of experience in a health sciences library setting. Supervisory experience.
