Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine (RowanSOM) Health Sciences Library seeks a dynamic and forward-thinking Director. Reporting to the Associate Provost of Library and Information Services of Rowan University, the Director will be responsible for the leadership of the library.
The Director of the RowanSOM Health Sciences Library plans, organizes, directs and performs library services that integrate with Rowan University Library Strategic Plan. The Director is responsible for providing strong leadership in areas of library management including personnel management, organization and administration, strategic planning, fiscal management, and policy and program development.
The RowanSOM Health Sciences Library plays a vital role in supporting the mission of this diverse institution in addition to providing scholarly research and academic support within a user- focused environment. The library serves the Rowan Stratford campus as well as potential remote locations of RowanSOM and operates on a twelve month calendar schedule.
This position is a non-tenured administrative position currently responsible for supervising four professional librarians and six full and part time support staff. The salary is competitive and is commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Required
Degree from an ALA-accredited graduate school A minimum of eight years of professional library experience with at least five years of supervisory experience, preferably in an academic or health sciences library Advanced knowledge of and experience with current resources, vocabularies and research techniques in the biomedical sciences, including evidence based practice tenets and teaching methodologies Excellent written and oral communication skills and interpersonal skills Knowledge of key issues, emerging technologies and best practices in health sciences education and librarianship Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a rapidly changing environment to provide dynamic and entrepreneurial leadership in identifying, developing, evaluating and delivering a full range of health sciences information services Experience in recruiting, appointing, training, supervising, mentoring and evaluating librarians and support staff as well as delegating tasks to and monitoring library staff Demonstrated proficiency and capabilities with personal computers and applications, the Internet and healthcare library- relevant information technology applications. Working knowledge of standard computer office applications and security issues Successful administration experience with strategic planning and fiscal budgeting and experience with Open Access, publications, record retention and copyright administration management A management style which supports a collegial, collaborative workplace culture that values and promotes a service philosophy

Preferred
Additional advanced degree in education, information science or health/biomedical sciences discipline Membership in the Medical Library Association Academy of Health Information Professionals Evidence of active participation in state and/or national organizations Experience working in a multi-campus library system environment Commitment to being a strong advocate for the library and its stakeholders Expertise in marketing and grant writing Experience working in a unionized institution
