Position Description:
Flexible work arrangements, including virtual/hybrid work locations, are an integral part of the School of Medicine’s Working Forward initiative. As such, this position’s work location is designated as hybrid. Please note that the designated work location is subject to change based on the unit’s business needs. The Library Services Director of the statewide NC AHEC Program is responsible for the direction of all NC AHEC Library Services including the ongoing development, management, and maintenance of the North Carolina AHEC Digital Library (ADL). This position communicates clearly and concisely with a wide range of contacts statewide, including NC AHEC staff, regional AHEC staff, UNC Health Sciences Library (HSL) staff, publishers, and vendors. This position shares responsibility with regional AHEC library leaders for representing NC AHEC Library Services on groups, committees, and task forces, internal and external.
Essential Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively, including to lead in a matrixed organization. Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills. Minimum of three years’ experience working in a hospital or health science/medical environment. Demonstrated ability to liaise at varied levels of an organization, in particular, health-related organizations
Education Requirements:
Requires the Masters in Library Science (MLS) degree (or foreign degree equivalent). In specialized libraries, may substitute an advanced degree in the field of specialization (e.g., legal degree for a law library, or a history degree for a special historical collection within the library setting).
Qualifications and Experience:
Experience managing full-time staff. Experience in conducting expert literature searches. Familiarity with electronic library resource acquisitions or collection development. Familiarity with AHEC Programs. Experience working or communicating with library or hospital IT professionals.
