| Job Details: | The work involves performing professional librarian responsibilities in a hospital medical library. Work is performed under general supervision of a Senior Medical Librarian. Supervision may be exercised over a small number of clerical employees. |
| TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: Provides a medical library service in a hospital as a source of reference training for student nurses, technicians, medical staff and other professional employees; Assists departments in selecting books and periodicals; Compiles book lists and bibliographies in specialized fields such as medicine, dietetics, nursing and psychiatry; performs literature searches; Supervises and performs book repair work and custodial care of books and periodicals; Teaches library science to student nurses and other employees; Confers with supervisor about requisitions, budget requests and reports for hospital and medical associations; Acquires, classifies and catalogs books and periodicals; Selects, maintains and instructs personnel in the use of audio-visual materials.FULL PERFORMANCE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Good knowledge of the principles and techniques of library science; good knowledge of bibliographical tools and resources; good knowledge of medical library terminology; working knowledge of audio-visual material usage, acquisition and selection; ability to maintain library records and to perform related clerical work; ability to administer the circulation of books and periodicals; ability to get along well with others; initiative; resourcefulness; sound professional judgment; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A) Graduation from a regionally accredited or.New York State registered college or university with a Master’s degree in Library Science with specialization in Health Science; Or: A) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Master’s degree in Library Science and one year of professional librarian experience in a Health Science setting |
