Scholarly Communications Librarian
The Scott Memorial Library and Center for Teaching & Learning, Thomas Jefferson University, invite applications for the position of Scholarly Communications Librarian. The Scholarly Communications Librarian develops and implements library initiatives in support of digital scholarship and publishing by the Jefferson community. The Scholarly Communications Librarian works closely with other Library and CTL staff to facilitate the use of Library and CTL resources and services for digital scholarship creation by faculty and students. He/she presents workshops and other programming on digital tools, digital scholarship and data management best practices to faculty, students and researchers. The Scholarly Communications Librarian collaborates with Information Services librarians to teach selected classroom and specialty workshops.
- Leads identification, evaluation, development and implantation of digital scholarship and publishing initiatives for the Libraries in support of teaching, learning and research.
- Provides outreach and education to faculty and staff around scholarly digital publishing issues including copyright, fair use, funder mandates, open access, impact assessment and citation metrics.
- Designs and delivers workshops and individual consultations on digital scholarship tools, resources, current standards and best practices.
- Assists faculty, clinicians and researchers in planning effective, innovative and sustainable digital projects.
- Collaborates closely with library and CTL staff, especially with the Special Collections and Digital Services Librarian, to promote and to develop the use of the institutional repository, new digital publishing tools and digital scholarship services.
- Teaches classes and workshops that build information literacy and management skills for Jefferson students, faculty, researchers and hospital-based clinicians.
- Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.
Masters in library science (MLS) required.
Five years experience teaching or leading workshops in information management skills. Understanding of the scholarly information process, including the emerging areas of digital publishing and the functions of an institutional repository.
