Summary:
The Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) Center for Tobacco Products (CTP) regulates the manufacturing, marketing, and distribution of tobacco products. Our goal is to reduce the harm from all regulated tobacco products across the entire population, including: reducing the number of people who start to use tobacco products, encouraging more people to stop using these products, and reducing the adverse health impact for those who continue to use these products. CTP’s actions have significant public health and consumer protection impact and are among the most important issues faced by the Agency in its long and distinguished history.
This position is located in the Center for Tobacco Products which is responsible for planning, managing, directing and coordinating major tobacco program objectives to implement the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act.
Responsibilities/Job Duties:
• Execute program objectives, identify program needs, and facilitate program planning as it relates to the Office of Science data management systems.
• Conducts complex reference, research, and information services support to the Office of Science researchers and workgroups in response to requests for information.
• Reads and selects, and synthesizes or summarizes, and evaluates the literature and internal documents for relevance and quality.
Qualifications:
The position of Technical Information Specialist falls under the 1412 occupational series. To qualify for this position at grade GS-12/13, you must meet all requirements by 11:59 pm EST on 10/06/2022.
Basic Requirements:
Education: A full 4-year course of study that meets all the requirements for a bachelor’s degree with major study in the subject-matter field of the position to be filled.
OR
Experience: Four years of experience that provided a knowledge of the basic principles, theories, practices, techniques, and terminology of a discipline or subject-matter field; an understanding of the standard methods, procedures, and techniques of research and analysis in the subject-matter field; and where appropriate, ability to read and comprehend nontechnical material in one or more foreign languages. Such experience must have been equivalent to that which would have been gained through a 4-year college curriculum.
OR
A combination of education and experience as described above.
Minimum Qualifications:
Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. The specialized experience must demonstrate one year of full-time work experience , or the equivalent if part-time (for example, an employee working 20 hours per week for a 12-month period should be credited with 6 months of experience.) Experience may have been obtained in either the federal service or its equivalent with state or local government, the private sector, or nongovernmental organizations.
GS-12: You must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11, in the Federal service, which includes: experience analyzing the logic, completeness, and accuracy of information; managing information systems to include collecting, organizing, and integrating data; provides reference library services (literature searches and literature reviews), research support, and replies to requests for interviews or written information.
GS-13: You must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12, in the Federal service, which includes: experience analyzing the logic, completeness, and accuracy of information; managing information systems to include collecting, organizing, and integrating data; provides reference library services (literature searches and literature reviews), research services, and preparing position papers and responses to information requests.
