📢 Medical Library Association Scholarships

The Medical Library Association (MLA) is pleased to announce the availability of three scholarships for aspiring health sciences librarians. Applications are due by January 31st, 2025. These scholarships provide an excellent opportunity to advance your career in health sciences librarianship.

  1. Gwendolyn S. Cruzat MLA Scholarship: This scholarship awards up to $5,000 in honor of Dr. Gwendolyn Cruzat, a distinguished leader in the library profession. It is open to students entering or currently enrolled in an ALA-accredited graduate library school. Learn more and apply here.
  2. Beverly Murphy MLA Scholarship for Underrepresented Students: Offering up to $5,000, this scholarship supports students from underrepresented groups. Named after Beverly Murphy, the first Black President of MLA, it aims to promote diversity within the field of health sciences librarianship. Learn more and apply here.
  3. Ana D. Cleveland MLA Scholarship: This scholarship provides up to $1,000 and honors Dr. Ana Cleveland, a pioneer in integrating informatics into health information education. It is intended for students dedicated to advancing in health sciences librarianship. Learn more and apply here.

📢 Announcement: Naomi C. Broering Latinx Heritage Grant

The Medical Library Association (MLA) is pleased to announce the Naomi C. Broering Latinx Heritage Grant. This grant, endowed by MLA Past-President Naomi C. Broering, awards $1,000 annually to a person of Latinx ethnicity or someone with an interest in Latinx community information services. Applications are due by January 31st, 2025.

 Eligibility:

  • Must be a member of MLA.
  • Must be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States or Canada.
  • Open to recent graduates or experienced librarians in health sciences libraries.
  • Applicants should have a significant interest in medical information services using the latest technologies.

Application Requirements:

  • Detailed description of the professional development and/or research activity for which support is requested.
  • Statement of interest or previous activity in medical informatics or data management.
  • Itemization of the financial support requested.
  • Current curriculum vitae or resume.

📢 Librarians without Borders® Ursula Poland International Scholarship

The Medical Library Association (MLA) is excited to offer the Librarians without Borders® Ursula Poland International Scholarship, awarding $1,000 annually to support international projects by U.S. or Canadian health sciences librarians. Named in honor of Ursula Poland, a dedicated advocate for global health information access, this scholarship aims to promote international collaboration and enhance health sciences librarianship globally. Applications are due by January 31st, 2025.

Eligibility:

  • MLA members who are U.S. or Canadian citizens/permanent residents.
  • Must have at least 5 years of continuous work experience in a health sciences library.
  • Professional library or information science qualification (may be waived for exceptional candidates).

Application Requirements:

  • Detailed cover letter explaining the goals of the international project.
  • Statement on how the scholarship funds will be used.
  • Project timeline and itemized expenses.
  • Current CV or resume.
  • Three letters of reference.
