MLA Rising Stars 2012 Call for Participation
MLA Rising Stars 2012 Call for Participation
Applications are now being accepted for the next class of MLA Rising Stars. This exciting new program is for MLA members who are interested in MLA leadership roles but who have not yet become active at a national level. Applications also are sought from MLA units who wish to host a Rising Star.
The one-year leadership development program matches each Rising Star with a mentor and a curriculum that includes learning how MLA succeeds through the volunteer efforts of its members, the roles of the MLA Board and staff, and project management skills, which will be applied to an MLA project. Interested MLA members can find the criteria, timeline, and application form on MLANET. The deadline for Rising Star applications is October 1.
The first class of MLA Rising Stars were recognized for their achievements at the annual meeting in Minneapolis. Bob Johnson, mentored by Rikke Ogawa, helped plan section programming for MLA ?11. Emily Hurst, mentored by Connie Schardt, worked on evaluating the CORE toolbox. Rex Robison, mentored by Julia Kochi, examined MLA’s hospital library benchmarking activities and recommended ways to use the data more effectively. Karen Hanus, mentored by Julia Shaw Kokot, developed a new communications plan for Chapter Council. For the first class, all mentors were members of the MLA Board and projects were chosen by the Board.
For the second year, applications for hosting Rising Stars are being sought from MLA units. Interested MLA units can find more information on MLANET. Units are responsible for identifying one or more projects and a mentor from their membership for each project. The deadline for host applications is November 1.
