Sewell Stipends for librarians at APHA: applications open Oct 12-18
Act fast: Sewell Stipends for librarians at APHA: applications open Oct 12-18 – streamlined for 2020
The Sewell Stipend is a professional development resource for librarians who work with public health information and public health workers. The Sewell Stipend supports librarians at the annual meeting of the American Public Health Association by covering their financial costs and by connecting librarians to peers and mentors.
What’s different this year?
– APHA 2020 is online
– The timeline is very compressed: applications October 12 – 18, conference October 24-28
– The application process is simpler: no essay requirement and no mentor requirement
– At least ten stipends (covering APHA membership and registration) will be awarded by lottery

“Wait,” you say, “that’s how I apply for a stipend, but why should I want to go to APHA?”
Here’s what the 2019 Sewell Stipend Recipients thought:
Information presented at APHA aligned with and expanded upon many of the Sewell recipients’ personal and professional interests. The diversity of conference attendees, by background and profession, was impressive and notably different from library conferences. The scope and depth of the topics covered were exciting and inspiring. Some stipend recipients found the experience to be more welcoming and relevant to their professional interests than many library conferences.
