University of Georgia Position: Learning Commons Research and Instruction Librarian for Public Health
The University of Georgia Libraries seeks a Learning Commons (LC) Research and Instruction Librarian who will be responsible for assisting students, faculty, and staff in making effective use of library resources through virtual and in-person reference assistance, class instruction sessions, and one-on-one consultations. The LC Research and Instruction Librarian provides research assistance in all subjects with a special focus on cultivating and maintaining strong relationships with faculty and students in assigned outreach departments within the College of Public Health. The LC Research and Instruction Librarian also teaches EndNote and develops research guides for faculty members who wish to incorporate library resources into their curriculum. The LC Research and Instruction Librarian reports to the Head of the Research and Instruction Department.
The LC Research and Instruction Department covers three in-person service points: in the Zell B. Miller Learning Center (MLC), the Main Library, and the Science Library. This position is based in the MLC, a learning commons incorporating reference and technology services, 26 general classrooms, 500 individual workstations and a Digital Media Lab. The Department provides remote assistance through chat, e-mail, text, and telephone reference. One evening reference shift per week and 2-4 Sunday shifts per semester are required. The LC Research and Instruction Librarian will also provide reference service at the Science Library to foster regular exchange of ideas within the Department.
