What I Learned Thanks to a MAC Grant

As a recipient of one of the MAC Special Professional Development Grants I was able to attend the MLA CE course “Rethinking Connections with Our Users: Incorporating Mobile Devices into Library Services” in Minneapolis, MN during the MLA annual meeting.  The class material was written by Jodi Philbrick and Molly Knapp, and taught by Jodi.  This 4 hour CE was full of information and touched on many areas including:

   –      Overview of mobile devices

–          Types and usage of specific smartphones

–          Mobile applications

–          Libraries “going  mobile”

As always the best part of the CE was meeting some wonderful librarians.  Some specifics that I left with:

 –          I finally learned about QR codes and how easy it is to generate them

–          I was able to try out a few apps that I had not heard of such as Shots, Blausen Human Atlas, Reunite, and MyFitnessPal.

–          I was made aware of several Web pages of devices such as the one written by LSU-HSC New Orleans
