Claire A. Meissner
Claire expects to retire in early 2019. She was born in New York and lived for many years in Western Massachusetts. Her original career path was English Literature, but unexpectedly she backed not only into librarianship but medical librarianship and has not regretted it. She has seen many changes in the profession, and the one she enjoys the most is teaching clinical staff and students how to effectively use electronic resources.
She received her M.L.S. in 1990 from the State University of New York at Albany. Claire worked as a hospital Medical Librarian in Northamptom, MA, as a Medical Librarian at Western Maryland Area Health Education Center in Cumberland, MD, and for the past 22 years as Health Sciences Librarian at Centra, Lynchburg, VA.
She has been a member of MAC since 1993 and attended most of the Annual Meetings. She is honored to have received the Marguerite Abel Service Award (2008) and One Person Library Award (2007). She is a member of MLA and AHIP.
Congratulations on your retirement, Claire!
