The Electronic Resources Assistant acquires and process library materials in all formats (physical and electronic) and is responsible for loading and updating bibliographic data files into various library systems. The resource management assistant reports to the Qatar Liaison Librarian/Assistant Head, Resource Management
Serve as backup for picking and distributing library mail.
Orders, renews and receives serial subscriptions and monographs in all formats (primarily electronic), reviews renewal list and invoices for accuracy; prepares purchase orders and requisitions for payment of bills; posts payments in ILS and other systems, return materials to vendors as appropriate, contacts vendors and publishers via phone or email regarding subscription problems
Performs cataloging activities for newly acquired resources including processing of physical materials; reviews MARC records from OCLC and other systems to determine the accuracy of the bibliographic information and conformity to WCMC cataloguing practices
Monitors ILS and other library systems to ensure resource information are entered and updated correctly; Assist with de-accession and processing of discarded materials
Sets up, verifies, and maintains links to e-journals and e-books in ILS, link resolver (SFX), SERHOLD and e-Resources database. Troubleshoots access problems.
Compiles monthly and annual statistics for supervisor’s review.
Performs financial activities for resources purchases; reviews monthly accounting statements; contacts Accounting to resolve discrepancies
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree or 5 years’ relevant industry experience may be substituted for a degree Experience with Microsoft Office Suite
Highly Desired Requirements
Knowledge of AACR2/RDA, MARC, LC/NLM classifications and acquisition/cataloging procedures Familiarity with library systems such as Innovative Interfaces, SFX Link Resolver, OCLC Connexion
Skill and Abilities
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a collaborative manner with all departmental faculty and staff, as well as other institutional representatives.
Advanced-level experience Microsoft Excel.
Ability to handle multiple concurrent tasks in a competent and professional manner in a fast paced atmosphere.
