This position directs the work of the Collection Access Section (CAS) of
the Public Services Division, Library Operations, at the National Library
of Medicine, National Institutes of Health. CAS is responsible for
managing a document delivery network serving over 2,200 biomedical
libraries in the United States, Canada and abroad which controls the
distribution of approximately one million interlibrary loan requests
annually. Specifically, CAS is responsible for managing NLM’s onsite and
offsite interlibrary loan and document delivery operations, overseeing the
development of DOCLINE, NLM’s automated request routing and order referral
system, managing customer service operations for referred inquiries, and
assisting in the development and evaluation of new NLM products and
services that affect circulation, interlibrary loan, and document delivery.
The CAS Head plans, organizes, and monitors activities of a staff of
librarians, technical information specialists, library technicians and
contractors engaged in performing interlibrary loan, circulation, customer
service, and systems development and testing.
Candidates should be flexible, adaptable, and have the ability to guide
staff through the implementation of the NLM strategic plan as well as
organizational and physical space changes.
