Employee serves as a Librarian within the Education Service Line at the VA Medical Center, Salem, VA. The purpose of this position is to select, organize, preserve and access and disseminate information. Duties include, but may not be limited to: provides reference and public services to medical center staff, affiliated students, patients and their families; oversees public reference services, interlibrary loans, etc.; ensures access to information at other libraries and centers are available through interlibrary loan process; locates and selects appropriate material/information using current and retrospective on-line computer databases, other libraries, and external subject sources; develops reading lists and bibliographies to meet user needs; explains arrangement, resources and services of the library; instructs users on use of automated systems and library support equipment, (i.e., copier, printer, micro-fiche readers, etc.); participates in collection development/management, such as acquisition, organization, maintenance, preservation, and removal or replacement of materials; monitors expenditures for on-line searches and interlibrary loans; consolidates and prepares a variety of reports and statistics; and schedules classes/courses for employees/managers/supervisors and maintains training records.
WORK SCHEDULE: Monday-Friday, 7:45am – 4:30pm
