Marian University has an immediate opening for a Medical Librarian. Reporting to the Library Director, the Medical Librarian is a creative and team-oriented professional in a growing academic library, with an emphasis on service to the Marian University College of Osteopathic Medicine (COM), and Nursing faculty, staff and students. The Librarian provides reference service to students and faculty, and maintains strong knowledge of electronic resources and databases, and collaborates with library staff to provide library instruction and research support. Works collegially with local medical librarians to coordinate service for students both on campus and offsite at clinical locations; assists patrons in the use of library services, equipment, and facilities; and staffs the Circulation Desk as needed. Additional duties may include providing library tours and instruction, contributing to department programs, and serving on library, university and professional organization committees. Some evening and weekend hours are required. The library is a division of the Information Technology department.
The successful candidate will have a knowledge of and a commitment to the mission of Marian University; an ALA-accredited master’s degree in library science, with at least five years’ experience in an academic, research, hospital or medical school library; must have an ability to multitask and manage details; demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills, strong critical thinking skills and the ability to serve a diverse population. A positive attitude and enthusiasm for innovation and a changing environment are necessary. Knowledge of ALEPH and knowledge of medical terminology and bibliography preferred. Familiarity with medical information media resources to support clinical practitioners is also preferred.
