Job Posting – Reference & Instruction Librarian, Henderson, NV
The Jay Sexter Library at Touro University Nevada is seeking applications for the position of Reference and Instruction Librarian. The Reference and Instruction Librarian is responsible for promoting library services, both in person and online; providing student and faculty orientations and instruction in utilizing library resources, both in person and online; providing reference services to faculty and students; developing classes and workshops for students and faculty; updating the library’s online presence (website, LibGuides, etc.); performing the responsibilities of the Director in the Director’s absence.
This is a full-time position with non-tenured faculty status. Excellent benefits, generous vacation/holiday package. Salary dependent on qualifications and experience.
About the Library
The Jay Sexter Library was one of the first medical libraries planned as a primarily virtual library. The university is located in Henderson, Nevada, just 10 miles away from Las Vegas, Nevada. The Jay Sexter Library supports all programs at Touro University Nevada which include the College of Osteopathic Medicine (offering Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine and Master of Science in Medical Health Sciences degrees) and the College of Health and Human Services (offering graduate degrees in Education, Occupational Therapy, Physician Assistant Studies, Physical Therapy, and undergraduate and graduate Nursing degrees). Qualifications:
Education, Training, and/or Related Experience:
Required:
MLS/MLIS degree from an ALA-accredited library and information science program.
Minimum of one year library experience
Preferred:
Experience in a health sciences library or the health sciences section of an academic library.
Background in medical or life sciences
Core Competencies:
- Knowledge of library procedures and biomedical and educational electronic resources
- Knowledge and experience working with LibGuides
- Knowledge of OCLC and Innovative Interfaces
- Ability to develop and manage webpages
- Knowledge of methods of accessing online resources, including through mobile devices
- Knowledge of selection, acquisition, and evaluation of electronic resources
- Strong customer service orientation
- Knowledge of adult learning and information literacy principles
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
