Barbara A. Wright has announced her plans to retire after more than 35 years of library service. She began her career in the Fayetteville NC Area Health Education Center and held the position of Director for 12 years. After serving as Outreach Coordinator in the NN/LM South Central Region for nearly two years, she returned to her hometown of Richmond, VA and began her long association with Tompkins-McCaw Library at Virginia Commonwealth University. For the past 18 years, Barbara has held various appointments with the VCU Libraries and has a joint affiliate appointment with the VCU School of Medicine Department of Family Medicine. She is a Distinguished Member of the Academy of Health Information Professionals and longtime member of both MLA and MAC where she has served in many capacities.
Barbara is an experienced grant writer and a dedicated librarian who always enjoyed helping faculty and students discover that elusive bit of information. She never missed the chance to seize a teachable moment and even consulted with nursing staff during hospitalization a few years ago – a true “embedded librarian!” She will continue to reside in Richmond where she has many friends and family. Congratulations, Barbara!
