NLM History Talk/DeBakey Lecture by Dr. Farhan: DeBakey in Baghdad & Beirut

Dear Colleagues,

You are cordially invited to the next NLM History Talk, to be held virtually this Wednesday, September 9, at 2pm ET: https://videocast.nih.gov/watch=35408.

Our program will be the fourth annual NLM Michael E. DeBakey Lecture in the History of Medicine, honoring the legacy of Dr. DeBakey as it exists in modern medical practice and in the ongoing public engagement of the NLM.

This year’s lecture will be delivered by Sara Farhan, PhD – 2019 NLM Michael E. DeBakey Fellow in the History of Medicine, Assistant Professor of History, Department of International Studies, American University of Sharjah.

Join us online to hear Dr. Farhan speak on “DeBakey in Baghdad and Beirut: The Internationalization of Surgical Education, 1945-1970,” participate in the Q&A via the live feedback interface, and read an interview with Dr. Farhan on our blog: https://circulatingnow.nlm.nih.gov/2020/09/03/debakey-in-baghdad-and-beirut-the-internationalization-of-surgical-education-1945-1970/.

This program, like all NLM History Talks, will be live-streamed globally, live-captioned, and subsequently archived in the NIH Videocast archive of History of Medicine programs https://videocast.nih.gov/PastEvents?c=221.

NLM History Talks promote awareness and use of NLM and related historical collections for research, education, and public service in biomedicine, the social sciences, and the humanities. They also support the commitment of the NLM to recognize the diversity of its collections-which span ten centuries, encompass a range of digital and physical formats, and originate from nearly every part of the globe-and to appreciate the diversity of individuals who value these collections and use them to advance their research, teaching, and learning.
