Lauren Wheeler, MLIS, is the recipient of the 2018 MAC Conference Scholarship. Be sure to congratulate her! Better yet, come to see her at the conference, October 28-30, 2018 in Ocean City, MD. Register today!

Lauren Wheeler is the Information Services Librarian at the Health Sciences and Human Services Library at the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB). She received her Master’s Degree of Library and Information Sciences from Wayne State University, Detroit, MI. She is a Beta Phi Mu Member and is the recipient of 2015 Diane Rockall Scholarship. Her job responsibilities include conducting literature searches, providing user-focused assistance to faculty, students, and staff. She helps to create and teach workshops on various topics to help improve information literacy. Her interest in health literacy and information management engaged her in collaboration with one of MAC Regional Medical Librarians to bring the Wikipedia Edit-a-Thon to UMB campus.

In her application, Laura wrote: “Attending this conference will be an amazing first step as I expand my professional career. I am excited to learn more about providing access to quality health information and what other libraries are doing to reach this goal. When I started my MLIS program I did not know health sciences librarianship existed. I am grateful I found a way to combine my personal interest in health sciences with my library career. I look forward to the opportunity to meet other health sciences librarians and learn more about the field.”
