Call for Volunteers: Help Draft a Response to NIH RFI on Publishing Costs
The Joint Legislative Committee (JLC) invites volunteers to participate in drafting a response to the NIH Request for Information (RFI) on limiting allowable publishing costs.The NIH’s recent Request for Information outlines four proposed options on allowable publication costs, specifically article processing charges, that can be covered by NIH grant funds.
Timeline Overview
To meet NIH’s September 15 deadline, we are operating on a tight schedule:
- Now–August 8: JLC recruits volunteer subject specialists to draft the response.
- August 11: Volunteers receive charge and begin drafting.
- August 11–August 27: Drafting period. Submit draft to JLC by August 27.
- August 27–September 3: JLC reviews/edits/finalizes the draft.
- September 4: Draft shared with AAHSL and MLA Boards for approval by September 10.
- September 11: Submission to NIH.
We are seeking:
- Subject specialists with interest or expertise in publishing cost policy, scholarly communication, or research funding.
