CLINICAL RESEARCH LIBRARIAN

– Full-time – Monday – Friday

Provide effective and efficient reference and clinical research services for medical students, researchers, undergraduate and graduate healthcare students, faculty and administration, including both extensive use of clinical databases and education on research/searching for other interested users.

Professional position; member of reference department; duties include classroom, web-based and customized instruction incorporating evidence-based medical research resources for students, researchers and faculty.

Will be considered a resource for both the Jefferson College of Health Sciences and the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: Master’s degree in Library or Information Science from an ALA-accredited school required.

EXPERIENCE: Minimum of two (2) years reference and instruction experience in a medical school library, hospital library or academic health sciences library required. Experience teaching information literacy skills in both a group setting and through one-on-one instruction required.

OTHER: Strong searching skills with recent experience searching medical, nursing and/or other relevant clinical resources. Skilled in the use of personal computers and software applications. Excellent people skills and ability to work in a team environment, ability to work as a faculty member in the areas of education, scholarship and service. Strong oral and written communication skills.

Administrative faculty position that provides comprehensive reference services in the areas of healthcare, education, and administration to undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and administrators, to include information literacy classes, bibliographic searches in a wide variety of medical and educational databases and collection development.

Develops and provides innovate, responsive reference service to library patrons.  Performs comprehensive bibliographic searches in a wide variety of databases in the areas of healthcare, education, and administration for undergraduate and graduate students and faculty.  Creates and teaches both general and assignment-specific comprehensive, high quality information literacy classes to both undergraduate and graduate students. Develops instructional materials and tutorials that provide bibliographic support for research and scholarship.

Develops the library collection to support the research and scholarship needs of faculty and students.  Functions and participates as part of the College community and serves on appropriate College committees.  Oversees evening work study students and circulation activities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
