MAC Vision Scholarship Report – submitted by Debby Vargas, student at University of Maryland

Attending the 2014 MAC Annual Meeting was a truly engaging window into the dynamic work of medical librarians. Thank you for the opportunity to participate as a MAC Vision Scholarship recipient. In my experience, the best way to explore a new career is to talk to dedicated professionals that are passionate about their field. The Mid-Atlantic Chapter members of the Medical Library Association did not disappoint! Following an afternoon CE session about social media, the highlight for me on Sunday was the opening reception and getting to know my conference mentor Brenda Linares and her colleagues from UNC. After such a warm welcome, the meeting was off to a great start. The speakers, the poster and paper presentations, and the networking all added to the sense of scholarship, collaboration, and service that reverberated among this accomplished group. I am thrilled to have been a part of it!

As my fall internship at the University of Maryland’s Health Sciences and Human Services Library comes to a close, I want to extend my sincere appreciation to Ryan Harris and the HS/HSL librarians that have taken the time to introduce me to medical librarianship. Thank you!
