MAC/RAC Research & Assessment Grant Application Deadline is Tomorrow August 1st
If you have found that you could use some funding for a research project the MAC Research and Assessment Committee may be able to help. If you are interested do not wait as the deadline to apply is tomorrow August 1st. The purpose of the Research and Assessment Grants is to promote and stimulate excellence in the field of health science librarianship and the information sciences. Grants may be used to support all or part of the costs of a project, up to a maximum of $1000. MAC/MLA may award more than one grant in a year for a maximum of $1000 in any one year.
Applicants must hold a graduate degree in library science
Applicants must be practicing health science librarians
The applicant must be a current member of MAC/MLA
Section 1: Applicant Information
Name and title
Institution and address
Section 2: Education
List in reverse chronological order all colleges, universities, and professional schools attended. Include degrees received and their year as well as pending degrees.
Section 3: Experience
List the professional employment you have held, starting with the most recent. Include dates and a brief description of the nature of your duties.
Section 4: Other Accomplishments
Honors, scholarships, or prizes you have received.
Membership in honor societies and in learned and professional organizations.
Research projects you have contributed to or completed.
Papers you have published or have submitted for publication.
Section 5: Project Design
Provide the following information concerning the project. Begin each section on a separate page and type the applicant’s last name in the upper right hand corner of each page.
Rationale & Assessment of Needs: Explain fully the needs, problems, deficiencies, or other stimuli that prompted this grant request. Discuss the results of any feasibility studies, surveys, or questionnaires that influenced the decision to submit this grant application.
Methodology & Timeline: Describe the general strategies to be employed in implementing this project. Analyze the specific tasks necessary for carrying out this project and prepare a timetable defining the individual steps to be accomplished and the time for completion. Include the expected date of completion for the project.
Budget: Provide a budgetary breakdown for all expenses related to the project. Indicate those expenses for which you are seeking assistance from MAC/MLA.
Appendices: Attach examples of any questionnaires or user surveys. Attach a bibliography of publications relevant to the proposed project and any discussion pertinent to the proposed project
Applications for the Research and Assessment Grant will be reviewed and judged according to the criteria listed below:
Judging will be completed by a group of 5 MAC/MLA members, including and lead by the Chair of the Research and Assessment Committee. Judges do not necessarily need to be a member of the Research and Assessment Committee.
Applications missing any of the required items or failing to meet eligibility criteria will be excluded from consideration. At the discretion of the Research & Assessment Committee Chair, applicants who have submitted incomplete applications, will be notified and allowed to make corrections.
Judges will review applications using the criteria below. For each item, judges will assign a rating on a scale of 1 (poor/strongly disagree) to 5 (very good/strongly agree).
Scores will be added together, and the application(s) with the highest score(s) will be awarded the grant. The Chair will review judge’s scores and if any glaring discrepancies appear, they will be discussed. If judges are unable to come to an agreement, the Chair will make a final decision.
At the discretion of the Chair, feedback from the judges can be presented by the Chair to applicants after the process is complete. Any feedback must be given in such a way that each judge’s contributions remain anonymous.
